Today, I signed up for the Beginner to Badass course on Bass Buzz. The B2B course takes you from the very basics of bass playing, through some rudimentary music theory, and onto intermediate technique, all in a relatively short period of time. Josh Fossgreen’s style of teaching is lighthearted and fun, yet very focused.
I had discovered Josh Fossgreen early on in my bass journey, when asked my musician brother Bruce where I could go to learn about playing bass. At that time, I knew nothing about the instrument, and possessed only vague memories of the concept of music. Bruce sent me a link to a YouTube video, on which Josh was demonstrating how to best adjust the strap on a bass (link here). After watching the video, I was so impressed with Josh’s style that I began watching his other videos, which ultimately led me to his Bass Buzz site. On the site, I found a passel of free beginner lessons, and a promotion for the $197 Beginner to Badass course. Josh states that this course is fun, and simple to follow, and can be completed anywhere from 30 days to 6 months. It didn’t take long to convince me that this was the best thing for me to do, so I signed up. I’ll report my progress in future posts.
Follow up: I completed the B2B course on September 19, 2019, but still have a long way to go before I can call myself a bass player.
